て-Form VERB + おく as “to do VERB ahead of time”

This grammar construct is used to express an action performed ahead of time, in preparation for a future occurence.

Example(s):

今夜はパーティーだからピザを注文しておいた
Konya wa party dakara pizza o chuumon shite oita.
(The party is this evening so I’m ordering pizza ahead of time.)

明日デートがありますからレストランの予約をしておきます
Ashita date ga arimasu kara restaurant no yoyaku o shite okimasu.
(I have a date tomorrow so I am making restaurant reservations in advance.)

来週は期末試験だからたくさんのコーヒーとカップヌードルを買いに行っておく
Raishuu wa kimatsu shiken dakara takusan no coffee to cup noodle o kai ni itte oku.
(Next week is finals week so I’m going to go buy lots of coffee and cup noodle in advance.)
