ない-Form VERB + 方がいい as “should not do VERB/it’s best to not do VERB”

This grammar pattern, which is the negative version of the た-Form VERB + 方がいい (X should do VERB) construction, is used to express a suggestion against a particular action.

Example(s):

彼は勉強していますから、邪魔しない方がいいよ。
Kare wa benkyou shite imasu kara, jyama shinai hou ga ii yo.
(He’s studying so it’s best not to bother him.)

重要じゃないから買わない方がいい
Jyuuyou jyanai kara kawanai hou ga ii.
(It’s not important so you shouldn’t buy it.)

明日は月曜日だから遅く寝ない方がいい
Ashita wa getsuyoubi dakara osoku nenai hou ga ii.
(Tomorrow is Monday so it’s better if I don’t sleep late.)
