Conjugations of Desu (です)

The です that concludes a sentence is a construct that we ignored for the most part in the beginning, but it actually represents many nuances, such as tense, and furthermore, has just as many tense-conjugations as regular verbs do.

Polite Form:
Affirmative Non-past –です
Affirmative Past –でした
Negative Non-past –じゃないです or (では/じゃ)ありません
Negative Past –じゃなかったです or (では/じゃ)ありませんでした

Plain Form:
Affirmative Non-past – だ
Affirmative Past –だった
Negative Non-past –じゃない
Negative Past –じゃなかった
