NOUN + を通して as “through NOUN”

When the phrasing を通して follows after a noun word, it establishes the noun as a medium through which the following verb statement occurs. The noun word itself can be any number of things, including people, events, activities, and even actions.

Example(s):

インターネットを通して服を買う人が少なくない。
Internet o tooshite fuku o kau hito ga sukunakunai.
(There are a lot of people who buy clothes through the internet.)

部活動を通してたくさんの人と友達になった。
Bukatsudou o tooshite takusan no hito to tomodachi ni natta.
(I became friends with a lot of people through extracurricular activities.)

このところは友達を通して聞いた。
Kono tokoro wa tomodachi o tooshite kiita.
(I heard about this place via a friend.)
